Lela McNaughton

d. April 21, 2020

Lela Mae Henderson McNaughton, 97, the daughter of Ira Newton and Alta Agnes Weir Henderson was born January 29, 1923 on a farm near Hooker, Oklahoma and went to be with her Lord on Tuesday April 21, 2020, in the Western Skilled Nursing & Therapy at Buffalo, Oklahoma.

Early in life the family moved to the Star Valley Community in Harper County, Lela attended the star valley school and continued schooling at Englewood High School in Englewood, Kansas where she graduated as Co-Valedictorian with the class of 1940. On April 27th, 1941 Lela and Leon McNaughton became husband and wife at the Girard Community Church in north Harper County. After a brief move to the state of Washington, Lela and Leon returned and purchased their first farm in 1948, where they established their home, Lela worked closely with Leon as they grew in love and devotion with each other and their farm. Their lives consisted of their love for God and church, enjoyed friends and neighbors, making music with her family, and working on the farm. Lela’s parents, brother Jess and a sister Thelma, were very musically talented as they spent many hours singing and playing the piano, organ, guitar, violin and mandolin. Lela was an exceptional pianist who played “By Ear” meaning if she could hear it, she most likely could play it. She continued playing the piano for church services as long as she was able to attend. After moving to grace living center, she offered

Considerable entertainment to visitors and residents with her skills in playing. In 1982 a home in buffalo was purchased due to Leon’s failing health and preparations for retirement. With the absence of children in their home, Lela and Leon focused on their love and care for each other and their love of the farm. In 1987 Leon and Lela met the Ralph Adcock family. A wonderful bond was built as Ralph and Carol and their boys became “Family” to them. Lela and Leon celebrated their 50th wedding Anniversary at home with a card shower and many memories. On September 28, 1990. Leon was diagnosed with terminal illness and on July 1 1991, Leon went to be with his Lord. After Leon’s passing, life became quite difficult but Ralph and Carol assisted with the chores and business. On April 11, 1992 the farm sale occurred, accomplishing one of Leon’s final request. Other than the day of Leon’s passing, Lela considered the day of the selling of their equipment to be the most difficult day of her life. The Love of her life was gone but he had made preparation for her. Leon’s final request to Lela was that she make Ralph his son by adoption. This request was completed on April 29, 1996. From that time forward Lela and Ralph were mother and son.

In November 2012 Lela moved to the Grace Living Center of Buffalo, Oklahoma where she was very well cared for and loved by her son family as well as the staff and nurses. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jesse one sister Thelma and her beloved husband Leon. Lela Leaves as her survivors, one son Ralph Adcock and wife Carol of Arkansas, 2 grandsons, Brent Adcock of Kansas, Dewayne Adcock and wife Sherry of Arkansas, one Great grandson Landon, numerous nieces nephews and many friends.
