Wayne Alan Orr

December 26, 1939 — April 17, 2026

Tulsa, OK

Wayne Alan Orr was born December 26, 1939 in Winfield, KS to Wycoff A (Bill) and Cora Howard Orr.

He graduated from Winfield High School in 1957 and briefly attended Southwestern College before joining the US Army. He did his basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, MO before receiving additional training at Fort Ord, CA where he received an award for marksmanship. He then served in the National Guard in both Kansas and Minnesota.

He married Norma Fichtl in 1963 and they started their home in Luverne, MN before returning to Winfield to start a family. They lived east of Winfield for nearly 30 years before divorcing. Wayne’s years were busy with home remodeling projects, bowling league, hunting and church activities at Trinity Lutheran Church such as serving as youth leader, head usher, church treasurer, financial secretary and project manager on many church and school remodels.

A major part of his life was serving the Boy Scouts of America primarily as Scout Master going on many trips and camporees.

For 30 years his career was land improvement. He purchased Orr Dozer Service from his father in 1972 and built many ponds, terraces, building pads and a few lakes, He was proud of his work especially when driving by a property he had worked on years before and seeing the work fully in use. He was very active in the Kansas Land Improvement Contractors Association (KLICA).

He closed Orr Dozer Service in 1992 and worked in the shipping departments of both Calmar and Casco retiring in 2005. In 2011 he moved to Tulsa, OK to be closer to daughter Sandy. He enjoyed living in his condo, but when he moved to University Village in 2022, he found his tribe. He loved the activities especially the horse races, bingo and trivia. He rarely missed a game and enjoyed all the camaraderie with residents, staff and Mazie the dog.

At the time of his death Wayne was a member of Christ the Redeemer Lutheran in Tulsa.

Wayne started smoking when he was 16, which was typical of the time. While he stayed away from vices like alcohol and gambling, he continued to smoke Winston cigarettes – up to 4 packs a day until he quit cold turkey in 1992. While he regained some lung function, permanent damage was done. He was adamant that his obituary state NOT TO SMOKE (or vape). The consequences just aren’t worth it.

He was predeceased by his parents and survived by son Keith (Annette) Orr of Manitowoc, WI and daughter Sandy (Shawn) Cooper of Tulsa, OK and grandson Shawn Jr. (Carrie) Cooper and two great grandchildren, Madeline (Scott) Doan and Morgan Cooper.

Graveside services will be held at High Point Cemetery in Buffalo, OK at 11 a.m. on Saturday April 25, 2026. A memorial service will also be held at University Village at a later date.

Donations may be made in his name to Trinity Lutheran Church, Winfield, KS, Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Tulsa, OK, the Boy Scouts of America or any anti-smoking organization.
