Roger Leon Van Dorn was born December 1, 1942, in Coldwater, Kansas to Wilbur “Bill” and Jennafawn (Bell) Van Dorn. Roger was baptized on June 19, 1955 at the First Christian Church of Protection, Kansas. In 1960 Roger graduated from Protection High School and went on to attend Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma. From 1962 to 1965 Roger served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Roger was honorably discharged in February 1965, after doing a tour in Vietnam. On his return home, he went back to Kansas as a custom cutter with his family, and from 1967 to 1969 returned to college at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas, and spent time on the rodeo circuit, riding bulls. On September 8, 1972, Roger married the love of his life, Margo Weisner. To this union, three daughters Kaylen, Lindsay, and Allison were born. Over the years Roger worked at Buffalo Feeders, Rhine Oil Company, and Oklahoma Department of Transportation until his retirement in January 2005. Roger had a love for horses and spent time breeding and breaking quarter horses. Roger, Margo, and Kaylen enjoyed going to the horse races in Raton, New Mexico. Roger loved fishing and camping with his family in Colorado. He was an avid hunter and spent many seasons bird hunting with his son-in-law, Jeremy, and grandsons Kyle, Austin, Hayden, and Landen. Later in life his greatest joy came from becoming a Papa and great Papa, roles he embraced with endless patience and love. Roger was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Jennafawn Van Dorn, sister Nina, brother and best friend Larry, and grandson Weston. Roger was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 26, 2026, at the age of 83. Roger leaves as his survivors wife of 54 years Margo; daughters Kaylen (Bryan) Sudduth of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Lindsay (Brett) Hickman of Woodward, Oklahoma; and Allison (Jeremy) McPhail of Ashland, Kansas; grandchildren Kyle (Lauren) Sparks, Courtney (Garrett) Pierce, Hayden (Reanna) McPhail, Austin Hickman, Landen McPhail, Kynslee Hickman, and Jenna Sudduth; great-grandchildren Koda, Ava, Kayce Sparks, Clarie, Leina, and Finnigan Pierce, and Jasper McPhail; nieces, nephews and numerous other family and friends. Roger will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
