Phyllis Ann Howard was born April 21, 1946 to Glenn and Clara (George) Howard at Alva, Oklahoma and passed away April 16, 2026 at 79 years of age. She attended and graduated from Selman School. She received her Bachelor’s degree at NWOSU and her Master’s degree from Kansas State in Manhattan, Kansas. Phyllis taught school in Kingman, Kansas, Cedar Rapids, Nebraska, and Syracuse, Kansas and she also was an adjunct professor at Kansas Newman University. She taught special education and first grade. Her favorite thing about teaching was seeing the children learning to read from the beginning of the school year to the end of the school year. A mother and father of one of her first graders said that her epitaph should be “She taught them well.” After retirement Phyllis moved back to Selman, Oklahoma to the family farm. She became a volunteer tutor at the Buffalo elementary school. She taught Sunday school at the First Chrisitan Church in Buffalo. Phyllis was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and the Red Hat Society chapter of Buffalo. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law Twana Howard. Phyllis is survived by her brother Donald Howard at the family farm in Selman, Oklahoma, she is also survived by her nephew Tom Howard (Sheila) of Houston, Tammie Brown (OM) of Hutto, Texas. Lanica Millsap (Dean) of Webber Falls, Oklahoma, and Marcy Wolfe (Russell) of Moore, Oklahoma. There are 12 great nieces and nephews, and 22 great-great nieces & nephews. Her family & friends appreciated her letters and cards on all occasions. Her close family looked forward to receiving her yearly Christmas gift of the family birthday & anniversary calendars. Phyllis enjoyed her cats, embroidering, playing games, reading, and watching games shows on the TV. She was dearly loved by thousands of students, their parents and fellow teachers. We were so blessed to have a wonderful Aunt Phyllis; her faith was an inspiration to her family. We were inspired by the Godly life she led and those of us who believe in Jesus look forward to seeing her again in Heaven.
