Michael Eddie Mattheyer peacefully left this earth on April 14th, 2025 at Western Skilled Nursing in Buffalo OK at the age of 83 years and 4 days after a short but aggressive battle with Dementia. Michael was born April 10th, 1942 in Chandler OK to Forrest and Mary Louise Mattheyer. He grew up in Chandler and later graduated from Chandler High School in 1960. After graduating he then moved to Guymon OK where he went to work with his Dad, Forrest on an Oil Rig. The following fall he attended College at Panhandle State University where he completed several semesters before returning to the oil patch. Upon returning to Guymon he met Glenda Lake on November 1st, 1962 on a blind date. The couple dated a mere 6 months before deciding to marry. They were married in the first Christian Church Buffalo OK on June 1st, 1963. After marrying the couple remained in Guymon. On September 14th, 1964 the couple welcomed their first child Glenna Marie Mattheyer. In 1957 the couple and Marie moved to Watonga OK where Michael attended Mud School for Dresser Magabar. Upon completion of his training in 1967 they moved, this time to Anchorage and then Kenai Alaska working off shore in the Bering Sea. In 1969 Michael changed companies to Eastman Whipstock where he was trained in directional drilling. After his training, in 1970 the company moved the family to Lafayette then Broussard LA. He continued with directional drilling off shore in the Gulf of America. In 1971 the family welcomed their second child Jane Louise Mattheyer on August 28th, 1971. In 1974 the family moved to Selman OK to Glenda’s family farm. Michael continued to work off shore after moving until 1987. At which point he continued directional work in Oklahoma and the surrounding states. Michael retired from Directional drilling in 2006. Throughout his life Michael always enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting and was exceptional with target shooting, where he once qualified Nationally in silhouettes. Michael always had dogs but had a special place in his heart for his favorite chocolate lab, Lou. Michael was preceded in death by his parents Forrest and Mary Louise Mattheyer. His sister Jeannie Seymour and his favorite Aunt Mary Lou Key. Survivors include his wife of the home Glenda, his daughters Glenna, Jane Bowles and spouse Brian. Grandchildren, Bailee and Brenden Bowles and Great grandson Jude Douglas. In Lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
Inurnment graveside service will be at 10:00AM Tuesday April 29, 2025 at the High Point Cemetery, Buffalo, Oklahoma.
