Mabel O. ( Stewart ) Halling, was born to Albert Lewis & Lelia Annie (O’Kelly) Stewart on August 10,  1921 in Midland, Texas, she was the fifth of nine children. Mabel attended school in Midland, Texas where she graduated from the Midland High School. In 1941, Mabel married ”Pete” Newton Carlton Hinson, coming from Odessa, Texas, in 1953 they made their home in Ashland Kansas.  Mabel was the only family member that moved out of Texas, and her father called her a “Damn Yankee”. Pete & Mabel worked as Ranch Hands at the Arnold Ranch. They had one son Newton Carlton (Pete) Hinson Jr.  Mabel enjoyed going to the football games to watch her son play football, he was the Quarterback for Ashland High Schools, and going to tennis Matches. Mabel owned and operated the, I 60 Highway Café in Ashland for many years. She was a nurse aid in Ashland and Minneola long term care. In the summer time Mabel always grew a big Garden with all kinds of vegetables to eat and share with family and friends. Mabel retired many years ago, because she was tired of being, older than the people she was taking caring of. Pete passed away in the early 1960’s. Mabel later married Earl Haskell and they spent their weekends, going camping and fishing at the Clark County Lake. Earl passed away. sometime later she married Al Halling. Mabel played the guitar and the key board some, and her husband Al played the fiddle with a group. They occasionally played at the Ashland long term care. She also enjoyed playing bridge and a good game of dominoes. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Ashland. In her later years she enjoyed watching TV programs, like the Talk Shows and the Game Shows or spending her time reading all different types of books, while she was living in the Ashland long term care unit. Preceded in death by her parents; three husbands; brother; Woodrow Wilson Stewart, sisters; Lucielle, Tennie, Martha. On Sunday evening June 5, 2016, Mabel went to be with her Lord and Savior in the Ashland Hospital at the age of 94.  She is survived by her son (Pete) Newton Hinson Jr. of Billings, Montana, brother, Albert Stewart Jr. & wife Sue of Midland, Texas, sisters Helen Estes of Midland, Texas she is at the age of 104, Jonnie “Bobbie” Thompson & husband Harold of Midland, Texas, Jeannet Ramsey of Alpine Texas, her good friend; Jonell Sirois and husband Art along with their children because Mabel was their baby sitter for many years, other family and friends.
