Lela Joann Peters (Jo) of Rosston, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026. Lela was born on October 9, 1938, in Lyndon, Kansas to Herbert E. Wylie and Lela C. Wylie. She was raised and educated in Lyndon, KS, graduating from Lyndon High School with the class of 1957.

On June 7, 1957, Lela married Thomas Peters in Lyndon, Kansas, to this union brought two children, Bill and Susan.

She spent much of her working life at The Wrangler in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She later worked at Walmart in Ottawa, Kansas and transferred to Walmart in Woodward, Oklahoma where she eventually retired from.

Throughout her life, Jo lived in several communities, including Lyndon, Topeka, Rossville, and Pomona, all in Kansas, Carpenter, Wyoming and Rosston, Oklahoma.

Jo was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her son, William (Bill) Peters and his wife, Kim Peters, her brother, Butch Wiley, her sister, Gloria Channley, 6 grandchildren, Lance, Dustin and Tim Peters and Schuyler, Nate and Gabby Borsdorf and 3 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her significant other, Delbert Flory, along with many extended family members and friends she considered family.

Jo found joy in simple pleasures. She loved quilting, crocheting, occasional gardening and collecting pottery. Her creativity, warmth and steady presence will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Lela Wiley, her husband, Thomas Peters, and her daughter, Susan Peters Borsdorf.

Jo’s life was one of love, resilience and devotion to Delbert, her family, as well as, her friends she considered family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

The graveside services were held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Rose Hill Cemetery, west of Buffalo, Oklahoma, with Dale Hirschman officiating. Friends, who are considered family, will be singing a few songs during the graveside service. Pallbearers include Lance Peters, Tim Peters, Cole Bentley, Cooper LeForce, Damon Stephens, and Dalton Munson with Lane Peters, who is 8 years old, serving as an honorary pallbearer.
