In Loving Memory of John “Doug” Douglas Roberts
February 23, 1949 – May 10, 2025
John (Doug) Douglas Roberts, age 76, of Ashland, Kansas, passed away peacefully at home on May 10, 2025.
Doug was born on February 23, 1949, in Ashland, Kansas, to Donald Dick Roberts and Frances Ann Roberts. He graduated from Ashland High School with the Class of 1967 and proudly served his country in Vietnam. Doug returned home to build a life rooted in hard work, community, and family.
Doug married Crystal Solida on January 29, 2005, in their home in Ashland. They shared 20 years of marriage, filled with love, adventures, laughter, and deep devotion to their blended family.
He is survived by his wife, Crystal Roberts; his children Junnae Campbell, Jolene Roberts, Jake & Melissa Roberts, and Dylan Solida & Ryan St Peters; eight grandchildren; his brother, Casey Roberts; two nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Dick Roberts and Frances Ann Roberts.
Doug had a passion for farming, welding, and giving back to his community. He worked for most of his life as a welder at Roberts Welding, where his skill and work ethic were unmatched. Stubborn and set in his ways, Doug was also one of the hardest workers anyone had ever known — he kept working up until the last six months of his life, a testament to his grit and determination.
He served faithfully on the Ashland School Board, Ashland City Council, and in several other community roles. Doug believed in making a difference and led by example — not with fanfare, but with steady, selfless action.
Above all, Doug’s greatest joy was his children and grandchildren. His family was his whole world, and he loved them fiercely. He was proud of them, supported them, and lived his life in a way that taught them strength, loyalty, and resilience.
We will remember Doug for his kind heart, his unshakable sense of duty, and the legacy of love and hard work he leaves behind. He showed us what it means to live with purpose, to give without expecting, and to love without limits.
Visitation will be Tuesday 13th from 1:00PM - 7:00PM.
