Kenneth Gerold Schweitzer was born to Leta Doreen (Arnold) and Kenneth Schweitzer on January 21, 1942 at Perryton, Texas. Gerold attended the Perryton grade school, until the 5th grade, then the family moved to Ashland, Kansas, to make their home. Gerold Graduated from the Ashland High School with the class of 1960. He went to Barber school in 1961 and through the years Gerold had a Barber shop in Ashland, Protection and Coldwater cutting hair for many years before he retired in 2016. Gerold and Mary Jo Cox were united in marriage September 2, 1962 and to this union they raised 5 children. Gerold also worked in the Clark County Sheriff office as radio dispatch and deputy sheriff. Gerold worked at numerous jobs in the community. “Gerold always had a job for every child.” He was a member of the Lions Club, Jaycees, Masonic Lodge, Kiwanis Club, volunteer with the Ashland Fire Department. Gerold was preceded in death by his parents, son Justin, a sister Lynda Ritter and a granddaughter Kathy Day-Staggs. Survivors include his wife Mary Jo of the home, Rhona Cornwall and husband Chip of Wichita, Kansa; Donna Day of Garden City, Kansas; Raymond Schweitzer and and wife Michelle of Colby, Kansas and Cindi Haas and Shane of Ashland, Kansas; his sister SueAnn Kilgore of California, a brother Alan Schweitzer and wife Becky of Johnson, Kansas; 15 grandchildren 4 great grandchildren nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Gerold was always talking to someone in the Barber Shop, up town down the street, he never met a stranger.
