Neal Kent Suthers was born May 20, 1944, in Shattuck, Oklahoma to William Heward and Gwendoline Lenoir Suthers and was one of five children. Neal grew up with his first wife Georgia "Marie" Dowler in Arnett and the two married on February 12, 1966, with their union lasting 41 years. Neal and Marie were blessed with two children, Sara Suthers Regier and John Suthers. Neal remarried Karen Ann Ives Suthers on January 12, 2013. They had many happy adventures together until her passing in 2019.
Neal attended medical school at the University of Oklahoma. He served proudly in the Us Navy and was stationed on Guam for two years. Upon honorable discharge he returned home and practiced medicine in Buffalo, Oklahoma for 48 years. Neal enjoyed painting, traveling, OU football, rebuilding antique cars and tractors, hunting and cooking. He helped plan and build Doby Springs Golf Course. He was a founding member of Buffalo’s Ducks Unlimited chapter. Neal was an active member of the community serving on the school board at Buffalo Public Schools, on the board of Harper County Community Hospital, and on the board at Oklahoma State Bank. He served and touched many lives in northwest Oklahoma and will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
Neal is preceded in death by his wife Marie Suthers, Karen Ives Suthers and his sister Al'Louise Ramp. Neal is survived by his siblings James William and Phyllis Suthers, Grady Robinson and Sanzee Suthers, Lelia Sue and Roger Allen. He is also survived by his daughter Sara and her husband Todd Regier and their three children Henry, Alex and Caroline. Furthermore, he is survived by his son John and his wife LaKrissa Suthers and their daughter Jadyn.
Funeral service will be held 10:00 A M Tuesday December 12, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church, Buffalo, OK. with the burial to follow at 2:30 PM in the Debolt Cemetery, Arnett, OK.
