Dovie Shuman

d. January 8, 2023

Dovie (Dova) Louise ( Baessler ) Shuman was born December 17, 1933 in Coldwater Kansas to John and Dova (Charles) Baessler. She attended grade school and high school in Laverne, Oklahoma participating in band, choir, and other community activities. When asked Dovie listed her hobbies of sewing, knitting, gardening, serving in the church, and pestering Raymona and Dovie stated she did those " quite well " . All that knew her would add her sisters Nancy and Mary to the list of "pestered" . She enjoyed being an active member of the church teaching 3 to 6 years and many generations of Sunday school children. Dovie became an incredibly talented seamstress,  making wedding dresses and veils as well as everyday clothing for family and community throughout her lifetime. She met her beloved, Jack Shuman, and they were wed on June 14, 1953 in the Laverne Christian Church  and made their home on the family farm, to this union two sons were born, Timothy Lee and Steven Ray. In 1988 grandsons Wayne and Kirk joined Dovie and Jack on the farm making it their permanent home. The Shuman household continued to grow as they opened their home to Tim and Lynn Johnson and finally Krystal Hamby. Dovie was known to all as Grandma or Aunt Dovie. Surrounded by animals of every kind, with kids underfoot while running the greenhouse and helping Jack is what made her days and heart the happiest. Dovie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack, sons Tim and Steve , bonus son Tim Johnson, beloved brothers Keith, Ted,  Mortiz (Popeye) , sisters Mary (Cook) Walcher and Nancy Myler, great grandson Trent Shuman. Dovie went to be with her heavenly father on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at her home with family and friends beside her bed.
