A Life Remembered

Douglas T. Inderlied was welcomed into the arms of his Eternal Father on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016.  He was born near Selman, OK to Walter and Helen Marie (Hedrick) Inderlied on May 23, 1942.  Doug spent his youth working on the family farm and attending school at Buffalo, OK.  He received his high school diploma in 1960, and went on to complete his bachelor’s degree in zoology at OSU, followed by a Masters of Education degree at NWOSU.  He served our country in the Air Force Reserves and was an Air Commando, a pilot with Air America, in support of Mac-V SOG, and achieved the rank of Major by the end of his military career.  After spending time in the Air Force Reserves, Doug secured a position teaching science at the high school level.  He taught at Ashland, KS and, also, served on the school board there for several years. In 1974, Doug married Deborah (Arnspiger) Hankamer and welcomed a step-son, Mark Hankamer, into his life.  To this marriage, three more children were born:  Heidi Marie, Scott Douglas, and Christopher Richard.  While teaching in Kansas, he continued to help with his family’s farming and ranching operation in Buffalo, OK and, also, filled in at Spotts Lumber Company in Ashland, KS, at times.  Doug stopped teaching in 1979 and returned to ranching and farming full-time in Oklahoma, commuting from Ashland.  By 2001, he and his sons moved back to Buffalo to help care for Doug’s aging parents.  Aside from work, he devoted much of his time caring for his sons, Scott and Chris.  Later in life, he was deeply involved in the lives of his grandchildren, as well.   Doug was a faithful member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo, OK, and loved his church family there.  Doug cherished times spent with his sons, their families, his grandchildren, and great-grandchild.  His faith and his family were his most valued treasures, and this was shown time and time again through his loving, self-less, compassionate and giving spirit.  He was preceded in death by his father, mother, step-son and infant daughter. Doug is survived by two sisters, Karen (L.O.) Huenergardt and Sharon O’Neil; his sons, Scott (Nichelle) Inderlied, and Christopher Inderlied; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jesus) Vela, Daelan Inderlied, Mark Inderlied, Jillian Inderlied and Sophie Inderlied; and great-granddaughter, Audree Rose; along with many nieces nephews, cousins and friends who loved him dearly.
