Charlotte Furgason

d. December 10, 2022

Laverne, OK

Charlotte Coeta Furgason gained her angel wings and joined her husband Bill on Dec 10, 2022, at Shattuck Newman Memorial Hospital at the age of 86.

Charlotte lived a long happy eventful life. She was born Dec 1, 1936, to Loyd Leslie and Gladys Irene Tomlinson in Vici, Oklahoma. After battling the EF-5 tornado on April 9th, 1947, Charlotte went on to graduate from Woodward High School. On one evening in 1955, Charlotte and her friends went to a dance in Woodward where she met the love of her life William Furgason (Bill). After dating for only two weeks, William proposed to her while she was at work with a bed pan in her hand. William was in the US Navy and stationed in California. After a long train ride with her Grandmother, she and William were married on June 4, 1955 in Englewood, California. While living in California, Charlotte and William had three children: Deby, John, and Sandy. Not only was her days filled with her children, she was employed as a nurse and scout leader. When Williams's enlistment was up, the family moved back to Oklahoma. Charlotte continued her commitment to nursing and scout leadership in Waynoka.  Later when life moved them to Laverne, she started working as a nurse at the Laverne Hospital. In the late 1970s, Charlotte took a job managing Phil's Kwik Shop better known as Sooner, Stop & Shop. She built a wonderful staff of women that would turn into lifelong friends. Working with Janie Wofford, Dixie Dunsworth, Anna-Mae Stinson, her two daughters Deby and Sandy, and many other great women. She would wake up long before sunrise to get the store ready for its day, and then would watch her favorite soap operas so she could discuss them with her daughters. Charlotte would also prepare snack foods for her grandkids to stop by after school and sometimes even have them stay for dinner. Late in the evening she would return to Sooners to close and do the books.  The next day she would get up and repeat this process and continue doing this for over 40 years.

Charlotte would also find plenty of time on the weekends to go to “yard hopping” with her sister Beth, husband, daughters, and sometimes even the grandkids. She loved her weekend camping trips to the lake and trips to Enid and/or Oklahoma City where she would reserve a hotel just so her grandkids could swim. Road trips didn't stop there, she also enjoyed loading up in the car with her husband, sister, and family to go gambling. Charlotte LOVED Christmas!  She and Bill would take their grandkids to Woodward to look at Christmas lights every year with a “Happy Meal” included. However, nothing topped the HUGE Christmas family get-togethers. Her Christmas table would rival most Las Vegas buffets, and no one was left hungry.

Charlotte was known for her love of collecting magnets.  Her collection began in the 80’s and has continued since. Family, friends, and loved ones have all made a special place in her home with all the magnets they have gifted her.  She treasured each and every one of them, and they frequently brought back fond memories or stories when she looked at them.

Later in life, Charlotte would enjoy watching game shows and enjoy sitting on the patio with visits with her husband, family, and neighbors. Although she had a short dating period with the love of her life, their marriage lasted a long 67 years together. She was preceded in death by her husband: William Furgason, parents: Loyd, and Gladys Tomlinson, sisters: Wilma Guthrie & Beth McCormick, and in-laws: John & Hattie Mae. Charlotte is survived by her children: Deby Dodd of Laverne, Oklahoma, John, wife Kelly Furgason of Odessa, Texas, Sandy, husband Tony Clark of Laverne, Oklahoma, grandkids, great grandkids, nieces, nephews, cousins, and so many friends. Charlotte was a blessing to so many and will be greatly missed.
