Bryce Harry Waugh was born to George Thomas and Edith Lucy (Vanderpool) Waugh, on June 30th, 1946, in Mooreland, Oklahoma. He was the fourth of twelve children born to George and Edith. Bryce left his earthly home and entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Monday, May 11th, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Growing up on the family farm northwest of Buffalo, Bryce spent his early years in the Willard community, where he attended elementary school until the family moved to Nunn, Colorado. Moving back to Buffalo in 1959, Bryce attended Buffalo High School, graduating with the Class of 1964.
Following graduation, Bryce attended Oklahoma Panhandle State University. While there, he met and married Pat Novak, and they eventually moved to Spearman, Texas. To this union, one son was born, Kyle Bryce. That marriage ended, but Bryce remained in Spearman and worked at Hansford Feeders.
In the spring of 1971, Bryce was introduced to Janie Beck, a cousin of one of his co-workers, Johnnie Scribner. Janie had just graduated from West Texas State University that May. They
married on August 2nd, 1971, and started their new life in Burkburnett, Texas, where Bryce worked at Preston Dairy and Janie taught at the high school. It was through the Dairy that Bryce and Janie were able to attend many Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers home games.
Their family grew while they were in Burkburnett, when their daughter, Kayla Kavon, was born in September 1974, and son, Charles Jason, in 1978.
The summer of 1982, Bryce and Janie decided to move their family to Bryce's hometown of Buffalo, Oklahoma, to be closer to family. In March 1985, the family was blessed with the arrival of Edee Marie.
Bryce worked with his brother Leland until 1985, when he went to work for ODOT on the survey crew and as an Inspector, before becoming Residency Construction Auditor. Bryce retired from ODOT in 2015 after 30 years.
Bryce was a member of the First Christian Church of Buffalo and served as a deacon and elder for many years. He was also involved with school and community activities.
Youth sports are where Bryce's passion shone through. He ran chains at Bison football games for approximately 20 years and was often found on his tractor at Hoefer Park, where he spent countless hours helping prepare the baseball and softball fields for the upcoming season. He also coached the 12u girls summer softball team, when his granddaughter Shelby
was playing. Bryce attended countless sporting events in Buffalo, and loved following his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to their events across Oklahoma and Colorado.
As a family man, Bryce worked hard for everything he achieved in life, and in 1997, he and Janie established Buffalo Self Storage. Their hard work paid off and, following his retirement from ODOT in 2015, Bryce achieved his lifelong ambition of owning some acreage, and a cow/calf operation.
In 2008, the George Waugh family was named as an Alumni Honored Family by Oklahoma
Panhandle State University, which was a source of great pride to Bryce.
Later in life, Bryce also enjoyed traveling with Janie and friends to Mexico and to several places within the US. To say these trips were fun-packed would be an
understatement.
Family meant everything to Bryce. His presence will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Bryce was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Leroy Waugh and Leland Waugh; brothers-in-law Red Chastine and Jay Lile, and sisters-in-law Jean Waugh, Carole Sue Waugh, Kathie Waugh, and Hester Sue (Beck) Crawford.
