Arvid Devearl Greenlee passed on from this life at home on February 4, 2017 at the age of 90 years 5 months and 7 days. He was born August 28, 1926 in Buffalo, Oklahoma to John William Greenlee and Lucy May (Prophet) Greenlee. Arvid grew up on the farm where his grandparents and parents had homesteaded southwest of Buffalo. He attended the Gyp Valley School and then later graduated from the Buffalo High School with the class of 1944. Arvid entered the service after graduating and served in the Army Air Force at the 427th Army Air Force Base in Roswell, New Mexico, until his discharged in 1946. He was a medic and a clerk. During his service, the base was also associated with the 509th Bomb Group and due to what assignment had the chance to meet Col. Paul Tibbetts, pilot of the Enola Gay, and was tasked to administer shots to Col. Tibbetts’ two boys! Upon returning form the Service, Arvid worked at Cooley’s John Deere as a mechanic, as a carpenter with Meryl Nelson, and later the Buffalo Schools as a custodian & maintenance. It was during this time he met Roxanna Mae Ashlock and later they were married on September of 1951. Arvid and Roxanna were blessed with four children Deborah Ann, James Devearl, Jeffrey John and Kent William. Arvid maintained a very determined work ethic and would continue to work as a carpenter with Bernard Prophet, Kenneth Krause and Lynn Snell until his mid-sixties and continued to farm until his mid-eighties. His efforts bought and paid for the farm-twice and put three kids through college. But Arvid never really retired, he worked outside the home until he was no longer able and he kept busy with decision making when he could. He did enjoy the farm and the recreation that it provided. He did really enjoyed the family pond. So many memories were made there. And he enjoyed working with the cattle with his dogs by his side helping him every day. Arvid was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, James; brother, Lloyd; two sisters, Doris Frank and Bonnie Foster; and beloved daughter, Debbie Boone. Arvid leaves as his survivors the love of his life Roxanna of the home; two sons, Jeff & wife Judy and Kent & wife Lori all of Buffalo, Oklahoma; a son-in-law Wilbert Boone of Odessa, Texas; Grandchildren includes Will Boone & wife Jannett, of Abilene, Texas, Denton Bradley and fiancé Jessica of Elm Creek, Nebraska , Tyler Bradley of Broken Bow, Nebraska, Colton Smith of Seminole, Oklahoma; two Great-Grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends young and old.
