Wilma Waugh

d. April 7, 2021

Wilma Lee Waugh, daughter of Claude and May (Taylor) Demuth was born on July 23, 1926 in the family home in the Yelton community.  She passed away April 7, 2021 in her home. Wilma lived 94 years in northwest Harper County.  Her early education was at Prospect and Pioneer schools, which were one-room schoolhouses.  After eighth grade, she went to Buffalo High School for two years, then the family moved to the Rosston school district, where she graduated from high school in 1944. Wilma married William Wesley Waugh, Jr. on September 8, 1945 when William was home on leave from the Army.  To this union four children were born: Kenneth Wayne, Joyce Lorene, Janita Elaine, and William (Bill) Lee. Wilma was a skilled seamstress. She made clothing for her family and also bridesmaid’s dresses and formals.  She sewed curtains, pillow cases, doll clothes, and tablecloths.  She taught Joyce and Janita the skills of sewing.  She also enjoyed making porcelain dolls with daughter-in-law Beth. Wilma was also an accomplished cook, providing meals for her family from the fruits of the farm and her garden.  Her specialty was her famous Angel Food Cake with a cooked icing that her children loved to eat the leftover out of the pan.  She also enjoyed raising a garden of green beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, and asparagus.  Wilma also raised chickens and sold eggs for grocery money in the early years. She was a faithful Christian from a young age, and that faith flowed down to her children.  She attended the Pleasant Hill country church with many Demuth relatives.  In later years she was a faithful member of the Buffalo, Laverne and Woodward Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents Claude and May, husband William, daughter Janita, sisters Thelma and Shirley, daughter-in-law Beth, and son-in-law Vic.
